A Relaxed Waterside Home
This beautiful home was a new purchase for a young family that wanted to put their own identity on the property. The house had to be child friendly and to stand the test of time, withstanding a busy family environment over the years. We were commissioned to create quality joinery throughout the whole house, with a relaxed and contemporary style.
From bachelor pad to family home
The house was originally purchased as a clean, stark, modern house with all of the usual high gloss finishes. The layouts and designs were more bachelor pad than family home and really didn’t offer anything in the way of a child friendly interior.
With help of an interior designer and our in-house designers, we set to work to create a more soft & gentle palate of materials. We introduced playful areas for book reading with the kids, like the wrap around window seating in the lounge that integrates and carries through to an inset fire and TV area. The brief was very much beach house meets family functionality. The choices of washed Oaks and matt white lacquers made for a more relaxed approach to our furniture. We could go one step further and add in scratch resistant as well as fingerprint-less lacquers to all the joinery, something that is priceless for smaller hands around the house.
Redefining a focal point
The staircase originally lacked any design and was incredibly over-powering when you immediately entered the house from the front door. This was the first major focal point as you entered the home and had to be addressed. We set to work to create a seamless transition from the staircase to both hallways and the landing upstairs. The ribbed oak timber really softened the heavy industrial looking staircase, especially to the underside. The soft oaks then set the tone for the rest of the house.
A space for calm
The main bedroom had to be a calming space but also an indulgent area. We created a self contained area for mum and dad to retreat away from the kids. We produced two new sets of wardrobes for that really showcased their clothes as well as making everything highly organised. We also manufactured bench seating, a coffee lounge area and a built in tv unit for them to sit and chill away from the kids.
